Welcome to Insisting Simplicity!

I’m JR. Thank you for stopping by and welcome to Insisting Simplicity. I built this website to celebrate life, our planet and highlight the richness of simple living.

My story? Well, I grew up in a church. Hold on just a second, don’t read too quickly. I said I grew up in a church, not I grew up in the church.

My kooky artist parents bought an old church many moons ago and decided to convert it into their home. It’s restoration is their lifelong labor of love – outside of Dad’s old truck, of course.

My older brother and I, seeing the obvious benefits of a “starving artist” lifestyle, decided to go down similar paths. Today, he’s an engineer and I’m a financial analyst. :p

I’m not much for titles though, nor do I believe one’s vocation defines their personhood – folks are generally much more interesting than that.

So, for now, let’s go with man or son (or maybe father someday?). I guess we’ll just lay that one down for now…

Now that you’ve walked through the door, I hope you’ll take off your jacket and stay a while. Feel free to poke around a bit. Here, you’ll find varied expressions of simple living.

Check out some past adventures. We try to stay active and love exploring New England. You won’t find any reviews of hotels though, but a tip on a lesser known spot may be fair game.

DIY projects are always on the docket. I can’t promise I’ll be able to pass along any wisdom, but maybe you can learn from my “rustic” outputs!

I’ll try to pepper in some reviews of interesting books I stumble upon along the way. And, of course, as commander of this vessel, I reserve the right to conjure up the periodic wild tempest of word blarg.

So, you’ll have to excuse me on occasion, while battening down the hatches there, matey.

Hopefully, these rumblings might just inspire you to try something or go somewhere new. Or maybe you’ll just get a good chuckle at my folly.

Whatever your fancy, thanks for stopping by.
