Simple Hobbies
I did a bit of black and white photography growing up. Getting outside in nature, messing around in a dark room, witnessing the magic of an image coming to life in a chemical bath in real time. There’s a lot to fall in love with.
One can go down a rabbit hole quickly when it comes to photography. Infinitely simple: just capture a moment. But there’s more, way, way more. It can be incredibly technical, cost prohibitive and scrutinized ad nauseam.
Well, I guess lots of things in life can be made complicated, morphed into a platform for complication. Shucks, someone should write a blog about rejecting that inclination.
For now, I’m focusing on the enjoyment it affords. It’s as much about the experience of shooting-the quiet reflection, the peacefulness of a morning, the majesty of a new landscape-than it is about a perfect composition. Who cares as long as I’m enjoying myself, right?

So what’s with those cairns (rock piles) anyway? There might be a story behind it, but that’s for another day.
